# Crous ou Prison

> Free French viral browser quiz game where players guess whether a photograph shows a CROUS student housing room (a French government-subsidized university dorm, often around 9 m²) or a prison cell. Plays instantly in the browser on mobile and desktop, no signup, no download. The game contains 180 hand-curated photos (87 CROUS rooms + 89 prison cells), nine game modes including a daily challenge with shareable Wordle-style result grid, an asynchronous duel-by-link mode, and a real-time 1v1 mode.

Crous ou Prison was created by Simon (TikTok/Instagram @sxkvi) as a humorous social commentary on French student housing precarity. The game spread on TikTok and Instagram in late 2025 / early 2026.

## Game modes (9 total)

### Solo
- **Daily Challenge** — Same 10 photos for every player worldwide each UTC day. One attempt per day. End screen shows a Wordle-style emoji grid (🟦 = correct, 🟥 = wrong) that you can copy and share.
- **Blitz** — 10 photos, ~8 seconds per image. Default unlocked mode.
- **Chrono** — 60-second time attack with unlimited lives. Maximize points within the limit.
- **Détective** — 20 photos. Each starts with a heavy 12px Gaussian blur that progressively clears as your timer ticks down (~10 seconds total). Guess at any blur level: a still-blurred guess earns up to +5 bonus points.
- **Marathon** — 50 photos with 3 lives. Checkpoint every 10 rounds. +1 life regenerated at round 25.
- **Hardcore** — 20 photos, 1 life only, no combo multiplier, no VIP hint button. Timer is generous (~18 seconds per photo) but every mistake ends the game. All earned points are doubled.
- **Mort Subite (Sudden Death)** — 1 life, infinite mode. Plays until you fail.

### Multiplayer
- **Duel by link (asynchronous)** — Generate a shareable URL containing your score and a deck seed. Friend opens the link, plays the same 10 photos, and sees a head-to-head comparison. No live connection needed; works across time zones.
- **Duel 1v1 live** — Create a room with a 6-letter code, share it, opponent joins, both click "ready", and you play 10 photos in real-time via Supabase Realtime.

### Companion mode
- **LinkedIn ou Interpol** (also "Linkterpol") — Same mechanic as Crous ou Prison, but with public profile photos: guess if the person is a tech CEO/professional or an Interpol "Red Notice" fugitive. 100 profiles (50 CEOs + 50 fugitives). Same 4 difficulty modes as Crous (Rapide 10, Complet 20, Marathon 50, Expert 100). Launched 2026-05-14 18:00 UTC.

## Scoring
- Base: 1 point per correct answer (2 if VIP)
- Combo multiplier: x1 → x1.5 (3 streak) → x2 (5 streak) → x3 (10+ streak)
- Detective bonus: 0 to +5 per correct answer based on remaining blur
- Hardcore: all base points × 2, no combo
- Daily streak: +15% (3-day), +30% (7-day)
- Lucky guess: 5% chance of +3 surprise points after combo of 2+
- Personal best saved per browser via localStorage
- Weekly leaderboard resets every Monday 00:00 (Europe/Paris)

## How a round works
A photograph is shown for 8–18 seconds (mode-dependent). Player chooses CROUS (🎓) or PRISON (🔒). Correct answer = score + combo. Wrong answer or timeout = lose 1 life. Out of lives = end of game. End screen shows final score, rank emoji, personal best comparison, and mode-appropriate share options.
